As of January 1st, hemp seeds are no longer required to adhere to Switzerland's strict agricultural seed legislation.

In Switzerland, only quality- and identity-assured seeds from performance-tested plant varieties are made available for agricultural purposes for important crops. Testing required under the legislation includes a check to determine if a variety is homogeneous, stable and distinct from all others. Another test evaluates the cultivation potential and the processing aptitude.

These latest changes to the seed rules, along with the country's 1% THC limit on hemp, and impending legal changes by Switzerland’s Federal Office of Public Health that would allow for pilot studies into cannabis use, the Swiss are moving aggressively to become leaders in Europe's burgeoning cannabis industry.
