Congress is poised to hold a floor vote next month on a historic bill that would deschedule cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act and enact various criminal reforms, including expungement of prior convictions.
The Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act would fundamentally change the marijuana and hemp landscapes, removing barriers that currently plague both industries.
For their part, American voters are making their voices heard. This election, citizens of five states voted overwhelmingly to legalize marijuana for both medicinal and recreational purposes.
“The recent success of cannabis reform in states around the country should give us a new sense of urgency to ensure Congress catches up with the American people,” say Reps. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Barbara Lee (D-CA) in a letter sent to colleagues on Tuesday.
