  • Beware: Disreputable Hempseed Suppliers Scamming Farmers

Reports of untrustworthy hempseed suppliers began surfacing around the country in early 2020. In Indiana, the Office of Indiana State Chemist (OISC) fielded many complaints and advises farmers to only buy from licensed sellers as the law protects farmers in more ways if they buy from a permitted seller.

OISC seed administrator, Donald Robison says, "some of these untrustworthy suppliers are from other states and they are selling seeds to growers in Indiana. I'm on the board of the Association of American Seed Control Officials and we've talked about this in our meetings, that this is a common issue across the country."

He predicts that most of these untrusted sellers will be federally weeded out in four to five more years.

A list of companies holding an Indiana seed permit to sell hempseed in the state is available on the OISC website.
