Argentina is looking to become a major player in international hemp markets. The country's lawmakers are fast-tracking a new industrial hemp bill in an effort to get the legislation passed as soon as the end of November.

Following legislation guidelines passed by several other Asian and Latin American countries, including Uruguay, Ecuador, Colombia and Mexico, the bill would set the maximum THC level to 1.0% and put oversight authority within the Ministry of Agriculture's purview, avoiding any involvement of narcotics or police agencies.

[Hemp fulfills] the need to diversify production, and promote entrepreneurship and innovation, hemp can open up multiple possibilities and create jobs.

Backers of the hemp initiative also point to other benefits, including, alignment with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and a Latin American environmental human rights treaty.
